ATTENTION: FRAUD!

Concerning attempts of fraud from the territory of the Russian Federation

The Embassy has noted that unidentified foreign citizens living in the Russian Federation are trying to defraud Ghanaian businessmen under the guise of purchasing of various goods and services (for example, diesel fuel) in the Russian Federation or conducting other business transactions. 

The crooks cover their genuine identity and pretend if they act on behalf of some real or fictitious Russian companies. Such impostors use forged passports, contracts, certificates and other documents to deceive potential victims. In some cases, special websites are created to convince targeted entrepreneurs to bargain with companies, which does not exist.

To avoid fraud, it would be useful to point out that to be legally binding in Russia contracts are normally signed in two languages (using Russian is obligatory). As well, it is worth mentioning that respectable companies normally use corporate emails for official correspondence and corporate bank accounts for business transactions.

The Embassy recommends to businessmen and potential investors to be vigilant and refrain from sending money for dubious bargains.
